The Little-Hyped, Yet Highly Effective Pest Control Approaches Explored

When most of us hear the term 'pest control', what immediately comes to mind is the image of someone with a sprayer on the back, or a light aircraft on an extensive farm, trying to fight pests. In both cases, of course, it is the chemicals that are sprayed that will ultimately eliminate the pests in question. In other words, for most of us, pest control has come to be equated with "the use of chemicals." Perhaps this is something caused by the information campaigns carried out by the manufacturers of the various chemicals for the control of pests. Maybe it's something to do with what we learn, with respect to pest control, from our educational systems. But whatever its origin, the final result is a kind of "hype": where chemicals are seen as the only solutions to the problem of pests. Whether the pests that bother you are cockroaches in your kitchen, rats in your warehouse, bed bugs in your bedroom or aphids in your garden, the solution is simply to get the right chemical, and soon they will be history; they tell you.

Now it can not be denied that the chemical approach to pest control is highly effective: sometimes with a success rate of 100%. Nor can it be denied that it is highly efficient. And it can not be denied that, in some cases, it may be the only viable pest control mechanism: as when the problem of pest infestation is very large, or where the problem is relatively modest, but the area in which it is necessary too large pest control

However, we should not be confined to equating pest control with the use of chemicals. Pest control is possible even without the use of chemicals in many cases. This is a delight for information in a situation where some of the chemicals used in pest control do not favor our environment. As a result, there are many other pest control methods that are little exaggerated but also very effective, which (when appropriate) can be used instead of chemicals.

One of the simplest and highly effective pest control approaches is simply to eliminate the breeding sites of the pests. Most pests do not invade en masse, but enter a pair (or so), and then breed to end the very problematic swarms that can only be eradicated chemically. If the hatcheries can be identified and destroyed early enough, the problem of the pest would have been eliminated from the root and the need for a chemical intervention would never arise.
Another simple but often ignored approach to pest control is to catch (as when the pests in question are the rats). However, it is not necessary to use chemical products to combat this type of pests, since they could be combated with the same ease and, probably, more effectively, through capture.

For the most problematic insect pests, such as aphids, one of the most effective and least discussed pest control approaches is the so-called biological control. What happens here is that other organisms that can feed on disturbing pests (such as aphids in this case) are introduced into the field where the pests are causing problems. The final result is a part on the part of the predators thus introduced, and the complete elimination by the pests that are controlled.
